Biolin acquire Nima Technology
"The acquisition of Nima Technology will give Biolin and its subsidiary KSV Instruments a very strong presence in Langmuir-Blodgett technology. Langmuir-Blodgett is a small niche in which we see great potential for future development."¯ says Fredrik Lindgren, CEO of Biolin.
Nima is a leading provider of scientific instruments for surface chemistry research applications. The focus is on the so-called Langmuir-Blodgett technique for preparation and analysis of monolayers (one molecule thin layers). The product range also includes instruments for tensiometry (analysing surface tension of liquids).
Nima's primary target group is academic customers in a number of different scientific fields. Nima has well over 1000 customers worldwide and primarily supplies products directly to customers through its own distribution facility.
Nima was founded over 20 years ago by Dr Frank Grunfeld, who is still managing director. The company is located in Coventry, UK. The company has a total of 10 employees in customer service, manufacturing and product development.
Nima will continue as an independent business within the Biolin group. However, there is substantial potential for co-ordination of certain business activities between Nima and Biolin's subsidiary KSV Instruments.
Nima and KSV will, with combined efforts, have more resource for the strategic development of the LB technology. With their combined experience of more than 40 years in the LB business the companies jointly target to create customer offerings with greater value for both customers and providers. Nima will continue to focus marketing on its core group of academic customers. KSV will continue its strategy to offer complete solutions for both industrial and academic customers through its global network of independent distributors.
