Monolayer Software

KSV's L and LB instruments are run by a powerful 32-bit software written in C++ for WindowsTM 95/98/NT/2000/XP. The software is intuitive and easily mastered by all users due to the familiar point and click format of drop down menus, buttons and icons.

The software allows the user to perform a variety of pre-programmed methods which cover the best known L and LB film experiments. These pre-programmed methods can further be modified for particular needs. The data is stored in a database and can easily be retrieved and analyzed at a later time, or alternatively exported to another data reduction software package. A wide range of data and parameters are recorded to the database depending on which type of measurement and options have been chosen. The recordable parameters are: data point number, time, barrier position, barrier speed, trough area, molecular area, dipper position, dipper speed, layer number, transfer ratio, cumultative transfer, temperature, pH and surface potential.

Standard program includes

  • Compression/relaxation isotherms: surface pressure/mma, surface pressure/time, or surface pressure/any desired measurable parameter
  • Transfer ratio and deposition profiles
  • Analysis of monolayer kinetics (enzyme kinetics, monolayer hydrolysis, polymerization etc.)
  • Analysis of monolayer penetration, solubility and binding of biomolecules (enzymes, proteins, peptides etc.)
  • Isochores and isobars: constant increase/decrease of surface pressure/mma, surface pressure/time, or surface pressure/any desired measurable parameter

The main parts of the program are the Main Menu, Experimental Setup, Measurements and Data Reduction and Analysis. The core of the software is the Main Menu from which all other sections and programs can be accessed. In the experimental setup you may specify all experiment specific information. This helps to keep the data organized and makes it easier to search for a specific measurement afterwards.

The actual performance of the Measurement occurs after the Experimental Setup has been filled out and the materials for the experiment are in place. Once the final experimental controls have been chosen the experiment is started. The experiment will then continue unsupervised until completion.

After an experiment has been performed you can return to the data for further analysis in the Data Reduction and Analysis section. After selecting an experiment the data for that experiment will be displayed. A variety of graphs for your data can be displayed and printed. Calculation of additional results and export of data can be done. There is an option of viewing and editing the Experimental setup which can be very helpful if the data produced should be recalculated based on new information about the materials involved.
