Nanoscience

Definition:

The scientific discipline seeking to increase knowledge and understanding of nanoscale phenomena, i.e. science on the scale of 0.1 nm to 100 nm. A nanometer is one millionth of a millimeter.

Summary/Description

The word 'nano' means 10-9 so a nanometer is one billionth of a meter or a millionth of a millimeter. One definition of nanoscience is that it concerns itself with the study of objects which are anywhere from hundreds to tens of nanometers in size. Nanoscience is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to bring about mature nanotechnology by combining fields such as physics, biology, engineering, chemistry, computer science and more.
