Liquid Absorption

There are two main methods to measure liquid absorption.
  1. Drop Shape Analysis - by measuring the shape of a liquid drop applied to an absorbent substrate as a function of time, the absorbency of the substrate can be determined. This process is often very rapid, requiring high speed video imaging.

  2. Tensiometry - An absorbent material or packed capillary of solid powder is placed at the air/liquid interface, and the increase in mass is a measure of the liquid absorption, which can in turn, be used to calculate the particle contact angle via the Washburn equation.
